Why Clients Choose Law Firms

Legal consulting firm, Altman Weil, recently released a special excerpt of their 2012 Chief Legal Officer Survey, which summarized responses to the survey related to factors that influenced CLOs in their selection of law firms.

The responses from CLOs at 204 companies in the U.S. offer an interesting glimpse into the thinking of CLOs, demonstrating that an understanding of the business and industry in which the CLO operates is most important, outscoring even referrals and recommendations from colleagues.

On the other end of the response spectrum, the least effective “influencer” was the old standard of inviting clients to meals, sporting events and social events.
